![]() ![]() Chances are, your surounded by fiberglass? I would mount a flat steel plate to the top of the tractor, and then it had the proper ground plane. I used to have trouble mounting antenna's on the magnums when they came out, with all the fiberglass. Get the correct length coax as it DOES make a difference. Wilson is a decent antenna, not the best but it will work. So i'm guessing I should just buy a decent antenna and eat the last one and chalk it up to a learning experience? ![]() The instructions that came with the antenna said to ground it if that was the case and after grounding the swr did not change again. So i adjusted as short as I could go and it did not seem to change it at all. It was better on channel 1 than channel 40. Its a wilson antenna i picked up at the truck stop for $20 (prob. If it's better on 40 then its too short and you either have a bad length of coax, bad antenna, or maybe the wrong loading coil. ![]() Is it better on channel 1 or channel 40? If it's better on channel 1, then the antenna is too long. You mention the SWR being in a range of 3.5 to 4. If you are using 50 Ω cable with a 50 Ω antenna, you'll be better off to tune the antenna than screw around with coax length. If it needs a ground plane then it's probably a 5/8 wave with a characteristic impedence of 50Ω. What type of antenna is it? does it mention a need for a ground plane or is it a boat type that works without a ground plane. Should I go and buy the 18' or do I have something else that may be causing my problem. The only thing I can think of is the box recommended using an 18' coax with this antenna and I bought a 6' before I read the instructions. I checked to make sure I had a good ground with a test light and that was fine. The next step was to ground the antenna and try again. Did not seem to make a difference on the meter. The instructions on the antenna said to lower the tuning rod and try again. The swr meter was at 3.5 to 4 on all the channels. I installed the antenna and started to tune. Had to buy a new antenna for my cb in my semi. ( logon | register )ĬB radio tuning Jump to page : 1 Now viewing page 1 ![]()
